Why is 2009 so important for climate change?
climate change
2009 is an all-important year in the fight against climate change. In December world leaders will get together at the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen to decide how the world tackles climate change and global warming for decades to come.
In the words of Oxfam’s Campaigns Director, Thomas Schultz-Jagow, this conference is "the most important meeting mankind has ever had."
Oxjam events this year will be contributing to Oxfam’s climate change work in two ways.
Firstly, money raised from Oxjam events will be going towards projects that help to mitigate the effects of climate change for some of the world’s poorest people.
Secondary, Oxfam will be using these events to get people involved with the Here and Now campaign, urging the government to do everything in their power to minimize the human impact of climate change.
We hope the Here and Now campaign will raise awareness and put pressure on the governments to act. You can read more on this campaign by clicking here.
